Flight to Antarctica not exactly first-class
And we think flying into Juneau is bad, with the plane circling, circling, then finally landing in Sitka, or Ketchikan. Try flying to Antarctica. Then try and try again.

Consider putting a crane on ferry boats
As long as we're throwing tax money at the ferry boats, please consider installing a crane on board the Alaska Marine Highway vessels M/V Le Conte and M/V Aurora on the bow so they can pick up small boats and transfer them to places such as Tenakee Springs and other outlying villages were automobiles aren't allowed.

A grab for power
Recent editorials and news stories in the Empire have reported on the election in Florida. From these stories we learn that some 19,000 ballots were tossed due to problems. The Jesse Jackson hucksters charge that the ballots were designed to confuse voters. Pat Buchanan also received 3,000 votes in a country with a large African-American population.

No respect for Dems
Local Democrats need to know that the actions of their party in Florida reflect directly upon them here in Juneau. Instructing ballot counters to disregard military votes is an almost unbelievable outrage. The silence of Tony Knowles and Kim Elton speaks volumes. Democrats have chosen to draw a line between them and the men and women who offer their lives in service to their country.

Another perspective on Mideast conflict
I read with interest Rev. Beran's opinions about the Middle East problems. As in his previous letter, a generous helping of Israeli "atrocities" was included without any context whatsoever, along with fairly vague suggestions about justice, freedom, dignity and similar human aspirations on which we can all agree. Here is another perspective on the situation.

Supreme intervention
The following editorial appeared in Saturday's Washington Post: Ever since Election Night, it's been clear that this astoundingly close presidential election could pose grave dangers. The legitimacy of the next president, and even of the American political system, could be called into question. Given those stakes, we hoped that leaders of both parties would step cautiously -- show some statesmanship, restrain their rhetoric, maybe even come together to find a mutually acceptable way to resolve what was essentially an electoral tie.
