As long as we're throwing tax money at the ferry boats, please consider installing a crane on board the Alaska Marine Highway vessels M/V Le Conte and M/V Aurora on the bow so they can pick up small boats and transfer them to places such as Tenakee Springs and other outlying villages were automobiles aren't allowed.
I have seen this type of crane first hand work quite well on a federal ship, the M/V Ranger III, serving Isle Royale National Park on Lake Superior. I feel that this would be an unmistakable gesture of good will toward the citizens of Alaska proving once again that the ferry system truly is designed for Alaska residents as a service, and not actually for the tourists as a business.
This additional transportation feature would open the door for many other revenue-producing ideas as well as a terrific rescue apparatus.
Thanking you in advance.
