Turnagain Pass opened to snowmachiners

ANCHORAGE - Chugach National Forest officials have delivered snowmachiners a pre-holiday gift.

They opened Turnagain Pass to snowmachining despite warm, wet conditions that are making assessing avalanche danger tricky.

Forecaster Kevin Wright says the unusual weather is transforming the snowpack. He says the best thing for snowmachiners to do this Thanksgiving is to use good judgment when riding in Turnagain Pass.

For skiers, the Alyeska Resort opened on schedule Wednesday morning.
