Juneau resident Edna "Edie" C. March, 89, died Nov. 6, 2006, in Juneau.

She was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Sonora, Calif. A Juneau resident for 22 years, she made significant contributions to the community as a volunteer from 1984 to 1997 in the National Senior Service Corps' Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs. She is remembered by program administrators and those she served as a faithful and generous friend with a beautiful smile. She also was a member of the Woldland Rainbow Girls and the Woodland Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred C. March; son, Alan R. March; and grandson, Kenneth M. Waldeck.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn A. Waldeck, of Phoenix; granddaughters, Karen A. Murvin, of Plano, Texas, and Kathryn L. Porter, of Tallmadge, Ohio; grandsons, Bryan March, of Tacoma, Wash., and Kevin March, of Juneau; great-granddaughters, Megan Porte and Michelle Porter, of Tallmadge, Alyssa Murvin, of Plano, and Nyah March, of Tacoma; and great-grandson, Matthew Murvin, of Plano.
At her request, there will be no service. There will be an afternoon tea to share fond memories of March at 3 p.m. on Thursday in the community room of Mountain View Apartments, Senior Center entrance. For more information, call 321-5422.
