Public Market held Thanksgiving weekend

Posted: Thursday, November 27, 2008

The annual Alaska-Juneau Public Market will kick off the day after Thanksgiving with between 150 to 175 vendors from across Alaska and beyond descending on Centennial Hall for the Christmas gift show.

The market will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29 and 30. Admission to Centennial Hall is $5 per person. No admission is charged to the Public Market Annex, located in the old armory.

The annual holiday tradition has occurred every Thanksgiving weekend since 1983.

Items for sale include Alaska Native handicrafts, handmade soaps, knives, jewelry, custom-made garments, wild berry products, Christmas gift packages and a variety of toys. The motto of the show is "Only at the Public Market," since many crafters and artists display only at this show.
