Douglas tree lighting slated for Nov. 28

Posted: Thursday, November 27, 2008

The annual Douglas Community Tree Lighting will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28. The tree to be lit is located between Waterwheel Plaza and the Douglas Community United Methodist Church at 1106 3rd St.

The tree and refreshments are sponsored by the Douglas Community United Methodist Church and the Douglas 4th of July Committee in recognition of the two holidays allowed to Treadwell and Douglas miners - Christmas and Independence Day.

People are asked to bring a flashlight and to leave dogs at home.

A "Skate with Santa" will follow the tree-lighting ceremony at 7:45 p.m. at the Treadwell Arena. The event is free to children 12 and under.
