GIRDWOOD - The Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood is opening for the season.
Chair 3 and Chair 4 at Alaska's premier ski resort will be operating Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Alyeska says the tram also will be open for foot passengers and sightseers.
Resort officials say there is a 4-inch base of snow, plus manmade at the base of the mountain. Midway up the mountain there is more than 30 inches of snow, and at the top there is 38 inches.
The Pond Cafe on the second floor of the Hotel Alyeska will be holding a special Thanksgiving holiday dinner on Thursday featuring turkey, ham and other traditional favorites. Reservations are recommended.
