Mr. Drummond seems to think that my concerns are not applicable to the road. My concerns for the safety of my child are not unfounded. I am not worried about the crime rate in Whitehorse. I am concerned about the crime rate in Juneau. I am not talking about the transient criminal that comes down the pike into Juneau, but the resident Juneau criminal having an easy means of escape and an additional hundred miles of roadway to dump my child's body. The criminals are here. Not in Haines or Skagway or Whitehorse. If you think they're not, you are sadly mistaken. Part of the reason Juneau has a relatively low crime rate is because there is no easy means of escape. Not because there is no easy means of entry.
As for the cost of living being so much higher here than in Anchorage, last time I was in Anchorage, the cost of a loaf of bread was three times that of Juneau. A road will not change that at all. If you want the cost of living to go down here, then ship all the wealthy people out, Mr. Drummond, instead of pooh-poohing the concerns of the poor whose only precious possession is their children.
