ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Luol Deng and Daniel Ewing each scored 20 points and No. 2 Duke defeated Pacific 82-69 Thursday in the opening round of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.
The Blue Devils (2-0) broke open a close game early in the second half by pounding the ball inside and hitting 6-of-11 3-point attempts. Pacific led for more than 10 minutes before Duke took its first lead, 15-14, at 9:43 on a 3-pointer by Redick.
Six points by Ewing fueled an 11-5 run that gave the Blue Devils a 39-33 lead at the half. Miah Davis led Pacific (1-1) with 24 points.
In Thursday's other tourney game, Liberty defeated Canisius 65-48.
In Wednesday's opening games, Seton Hall beat host UAA 62-57 and Purdue beat Texas State 61-50.
