Youth gun-safety program a good idea

I would like to compliment Tom Milliron, the principal of the Floyd Dryden Middle School in Juneau, for his implementation of the program to teach all of his students gun safety. As noted in a recent Anchorage Daily News article about gun safety, it makes such common, good sense to teach gun handling by knowledgeable conscientious instructors rather than allowing our youth to learn from the fallacies of movies and television.

Sound off on the important issues at

Guns are part of our culture and always will be. Although we can't see into the future, it is a certainty that Mr. Milliron's program will prevent tragedies in many lives. My compliments, and keep up the good work.

I would suggest that Principal Barb Mecum, principal of Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School, should also institute the same program. The benefits will be many.
