While I agree with the letter Sherrie and Nick Jans wrote (Juneau Empire, Nov. 18) about a volunteer effort to mitigate the beaver-related flooding at Dredge Lake, I suggest a more direct route.

Rather than wait for Forest Service action, why not simply schedule a public meeting at one of the library branches, announce it in the Juneau Empire and KINY and see what happens.
Trail Mix started with such a meeting in 1993 and has always had excellent agency support. There are people willing to help if someone will be the lead dog.
