I am certain I am not alone in thanking and congratulating Wallace Olson for his superb My Turn article of Nov. 24, "A simple proposal," recommending that the University of Alaska system discipline itself with a 15 percent budget ceiling on administrative costs.
I spent the first 19 years of my life as a faculty brat in another university system, and that self-absorbed, patronizing culture has continued to be very familiar. (I started to write "snotty and ivory tower" but I suppose that would be too un-P.C.).
A 15 percent administrative-cost limit is hardly revolutionary. But I expect days if not weeks of sputters as academia responds to Mr. Olson's recommendation. And perhaps this will give the chatterers something fresh to rant about other than the election that so satisfies us idiots.
