I have been a resident of Juneau for 35 years and have seen many changes around this community, good and bad. One bad change, and this is my opinion, is that the Dredge Lake area closed to all terrain vehicles many years ago. The complainers saw the all-terrain vehicles as destroyers of the environment, a reason why the wildlife was not abundant in the area.
Sound off on the important issues at
For years, I am sure the environment has not changed much except for more alders growing over the trails - and, yes, the wildlife has moved back into area. The complainers got their wish: no more noise and destroyers of the environment and lots of wonderful animals that live in the area.
So what I don't understand is why complainers would want to be rid of nature's wonderful creatures, the ones that complainers wanted see come back into their natural environment, a swamp.
The complainers wanted ATVs out and nature back; so let nature take its course, and leave the beavers alone. The complainers must remember when they step out of their homes and off the beaten path, they have entered into the vast wilderness of Alaska.
That's my opinion.
