Gov. Bill Egan looks at Alaska newspapers with headlines concerning Congress approving the trans-Alaska oil pipeline in his Capitol office. Egan, a Democrat, was elected governor of Alaska in the state's first general election in 1958. He served two consecutive terms and was returned to office for a third term in 1970.
