SOLDOTNA - The original Soldotna Post Office has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Judy Bittner, state historic preservation officer, says the register is the nation's list of more than 85,000 significant historic properties worthy of preservation.

The first Soldotna post office operated out of Maxine and Howard Lee's homestead house. Maxine Lee took the postmaster job and used part of the family's two-story log building as the post office from 1949 to 1951.

She left in 1951, but the building was used as the post office until the mid-1950s. A modern structure was built in 1962.
