In season: Black bear (Sept. 1-June 30), brown bear (Sept. 15-Dec. 31, March 15-May 31), deer (Sept. 15-Dec. 31), mountain goat (Sept. 1 or Oct. 1 depending on area-Nov. 31), wolf (Aug. 1-April 30), wolverine (Nov. 10-Feb. 150, ducks, geese, brants, snipe, crane (Sept. 1-Dec. 15), red and blue king crab (Oct. 1-March 31). Dec. 1: Denali National Park and Preserve begins taking advance reservations for the 2003 season. Early reservations will be taken by fax and mail for shuttle bus tours and sites at the park's four largest campgrounds. The park will start to accept reservations by phone on Feb. 15. Reservation forms can be downloaded from the park's Web site at www.nps.gov/dena.
Dec. 3: Monthly meeting of the Juneau Alpine Club, 7 p.m. Douglas Library. Details: Greg Bledsoe, 463-3211.
Dec. 3: Meeting about the draft environmental impact statement for the U.S. Forest Service's shoreline outfitter/guide plan. 7-9 p.m. Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. The draft analyzes the potential effects of authorizing different levels of commercial outfitting and guiding within the shoreline zone on national forest lands. Details: Sara Baldwin, 586-8800.
Dec. 8: Slide show and potluck party by the Juneau Alpine Club, 5:30 p.m. 4352 Manor Ave. Slides from Nepal and Denali, West Buttress.
