Cody Schick of Juneau's Glacier Swim Club won five races and took second place in six others during the Southeast ABC Invitational held Nov. 12-14 at Ketchikan's Mike Smithers Pool.

The ABC Invitational was for swimmers age 14-younger and is used as a qualifying meet for other events later in the season. No team scores were kept.

Schick, who competed in the age 11-12 boys division, won the 200-yard individual medley, the 50 breaststroke, the 400 IM, the 50 butterfly and the 200 backstroke in his age group. He also took second place in the 500 freestyle, the 100 fly, the 50 free, 100 back, the 200 free and the 50 back.

Three other Glacier Swim Club members won four events in their age groups - Jasmin Evans in age 11-12 girls, Evan Norman in age 11-12 boys and Dan Turner in age 11-12 boys.

Winning three events each were Jocelyn Cayce (age 10-younger girls) and Savannah Cayce (age 8-younger girls), while Devin Womack (age 10-younger boys) and Tessa Beedle (age 11-12 girls) won twice apiece.

GSC members with one victory each were Karla Boyd (age 11-12 girls), Haylee Hodgson (age 11-12 girls), Jay Hodgson (age 8-younger boys) and Briana Lopez (age 11-12 girls). Also competing for GSC in the meet were Luke Brockman (age 10-younger boys), Dakota Isaak (age 8-younger girls), Joley Hodgson (age 8-younger girls), Kim Miles (age 13-14 girls) and Talyn Ramos (age 10-younger girls).

"Overall, we swam 63 percent best times, very good considering the time in the season," new GSC coach Scott Griffith wrote in an e-mail. "Meaning, it is mid-seasoon, swimmers did not rest, or taper, for the meet. We also had many swimmers fighting some sort of cold/flu bug that seemed to sweep through the team very fast.

"I was very pleased with the team's performance, but more so their effort to keep swimming hard and fast through less than ideal conditions."
