JUNEAU - Alaska's senators made good on their pledge to oppose a proposed ban on earmarks.
On Tuesday, Sens. Mark Begich and Lisa Murkowski voted against an effort to ban earmarks in spending and authorization measures.
Begich, a Democrat, and Murkowski, a Republican, have supported greater transparency when it comes to earmark requests. They argue doing away with earmarks would do little to dent overall federal spending. And they contend it would end up hurting Alaska, a still-developing state that they say still needs investment in its infrastructure.
