ANCHORAGE - Federal agencies will hold a hearing in Anchorage to explore ways to better prevent suicide among Alaska Natives.
The "listening session" is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the downtown Egan Convention Center.
The event is among 10 hearings taking place across the country through Feb. 10 to address disproportionate rate of suicide in American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
The agencies taking part in the sessions are the Indian Health Service, the Interior Department's Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Officials say a national conference is planned for next year, but a date and location have not been set.
