JUNEAU - Former Juneau Harbormaster Lou McCall died Nov. 20 after a long fight with cancer.
McCall retired in October and had held the position since June 2004, according to a memo from Port Director John Stone to harbor patrons.
Stone wrote that McCall was "instrumental" in getting worker credentialing systems based in Alaska, which saved Alaska ports and business "many thousands of dollars." Stone also attributed the 2006 rebuild of Harris Harbor, clean up of downtown harbors and culture of excellent customer service to McCall.
McCall had recently been recognized with awards by the Alaska Association of Harbormasters and Port Administrators and the Pacific Coast Congress of Harbormasters.
