Princess announces new fishing cruises

Princess Cruises announced Wednesday a new tour option that focuses on fishing will be added to the 2011 season.

A press release said there will be 14-day excursions targeted at anglers. Princess Cruses media relations manager Karen Candy told the Empire these excursions will have fishing included in the package and will follow the routes of Princess' existing tours, using current ships and Alaskan lodges.

"Fishing is such an iconic part of the Alaska experience, that it made sense to offer a special tour especially for those who want to focus their time on the sport," Princess Cruises executive vice president Jan Swartz stated in the release. "We include a variety of fishing experiences so our passengers can get a taste of the array of fishing opportunities found throughout the state."

The tours will offer salmon fishing in the Inside Passage from Ketchikan, bottom fishing for halibut near Juneau and river fishing on the Kenai River and Talkeetna River. The river fishing tours will be excursions from the Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge and Mount McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge.

"We know that fishing is such a popular activity in Alaska, so we thought it would be a great way to showcase that to our passengers," said Candy.
