Searchers recover body near Teller

ANCHORAGE - The body of a woman missing near Teller has been recovered.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters tells KTUU-TV that the body of 44-year-old Barbara Scholten was found shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday.

Scholten on Nov. 24 was a passenger on a snowmobile driven by 53-year-old Marvin Okleasik.

They were riding from Teller to Brevig Mission but broke through sea ice.

Okleasik was able to walk to Teller.

A search was hampered by poor sea ice conditions.

Brevig Mission is about 5 miles from Teller across Port Clarence.

Teller is community of 261 about 60 miles northwest of Nome.
