Dale Graham Sarles

Juneau resident Dale Graham Sarles died Nov. 29, 2000, at his home in Juneau.

He was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Mount Kisco, N.Y., to George and Harriet Sarles. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1958 and General Theological Seminary in New York in 1961.

He moved to Alaska in 1961 to serve as priest of the Episcopal Church of Alaska in Minto and Valdez, as well as Juneau, where he has lived since 1972.

He earned a master's degree in counseling from the University of Alaska Southeast and was employed by the Juneau School District as a counselor at Marie Drake and Floyd Dryden middle schools. He retired in 1993 and served as interim ministry specialist in several churches around the country.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joyce Sarles of Juneau, children Carole Sarles, Christine and Brian Clark, brother Alan Sarles of California and sister Sondra Sarles of Maryland.

A service and celebration of his life will be held 4 p.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Church, Fourth and Gold streets. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, 3200 Hospital Dr., Juneau, 99801, or Juneau Episcopal Churches: Holy Trinity, 325 Gold St. or St. Brendan's, 4207 Mendenhall Loop Rd., both Juneau, AK, 99801.
