Images from another time: Moose encounter

Posted: Wednesday, December 03, 2003

This 1920s photograph shows a Southeast hunter in a close encounter with an adult male moose. Moose are the most common big-game species hunted in Alaska, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Male moose shed their antlers each year, sometimes as early as November, but usually in December or January. Healthy adult males generally weigh 1,200 to 1,600 pounds.
