MARIE SARABIA: Painter, sculptor

Posted: Wednesday, December 03, 2008

Age: 12.

Grade: Seventh.

School: Floyd Dryden Middle School.

Reason: "I chose to go to art, because I express myself by using art. I like to doodle a lot."

Experience: About 10 years.

All in the family: She said her mother and both sisters also show an interest in painting or sculpting.

Favorites: "My favorite artist is Leonardo da Vinci. My favorite art is the drawing and carving."

Future plans: "I really want to go to an art college. I would love that."

You should know: "My hero is Barack Obama."

Her teacher says: "Marie is always very absorbed by her art projects. She also has a mind of her own, and the unique touches she puts on each project show that. I would guess that doing her art relaxes her too, as she looks happy and relaxed as she works. Marie knows that art is a powerful tool for communication. She is very concerned about breast cancer and has created some art work designed to raise awareness about this disease."
