Anchorage presentation on large-scale mining

Posted: Friday, December 03, 2010

ANCHORAGE - A presentation today at the University of Alaska Anchorage will serve as an introduction to plans to develop the Pebble mine, a huge copper and gold mine in Southwest Alaska.

The Anchorage Daily News reports the presentation will be about large-scale mining operations around the world and will lead to scientific panels next year about the Pebble project.

The presentation and panels are the work of the Keystone Center, a Colorado nonprofit hired by the Pebble Partnership to lead discussions among everyone affected by the project.

Environmentalists and fishing interest say the mine could threaten the Bristol Bay salmon fishery.
