Juneau resident Henry Allen Collais died Nov. 29, 2002, at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau.
He was born Sept. 9, 1934, in Newton, Iowa. He graduated from Estacada High School in Oregon and studied two years at Portland State College. He continued his education, receiving technician's certificates. He married his wife, Eve, in 1964 and they moved to Juneau in 1965 and maintained their home here ever since.
He worked for the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, was transferred to the state Department of Highways in 1960 after statehood, and continued until retirement in 1986 with the Department of Transportation. He then worked for R&M Engineering as an inspector.
He was a life member of Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo No. 6, Juneau; life member Juneau Shrine Club; life member Mount Juneau Lodge No. 147 F&AM Order of Eastern Star; National Rifle Association; Scottish Rite; and other organizations.
He is survived by his wife, Eve R. Collais of Juneau; father John Henry Collais of Gresham, Ore.; sister Linda (Don) Woods of Gresham, Ore.; nephews Clint and Scott Woods of Oregon; sister-in-law May (James) Riback; and nieces Rene, Shelly and Becky, all of Oregon.
The family has requested that no formal services be held. Contributions may be made to a charity of choice. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.
