It's ironic that Sue Schrader (Nov. 30 letter to the editor) was in an airliner at 35,000 feet and not kayaking back to Alaska. After all, a kayak is surely the most environmentally friendly form of transportation, if one doesn't count swimming (the preferred mode of transportation between Skagway and Juneau for environmental "advocates" these days).
Ms. Schrader's almost cartoon-like portrayal of pro-development Alaskans ignores the reality that we can have a healthy resource-based economy and a clean environment. I agree with what Gov. Murkowski is trying to do because unlike Ms. Schrader, I believe we can have both.
Ms. Schrader would have you believe that environmentalists love Alaska more than any pro-development Alaskan possibly could. I appreciate what the governor has done to finally grow our economy in an environmentally responsible way and wish more of us spoke out every time we Alaskans were publicly assaulted by these ill-informed rants.
