Juneau World Affairs Council to sponsor speaker on terrorism

JUNEAU - The Juneau World Affairs Council will sponsor a presentation, "Root Causes of Terrorism," by Dr. Karin von Hippel at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at KTOO Studio, on Whittier and Egan, downtown.

Von Hippel is co-director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies Post - Conflict Reconstruction Project and senior fellow with the CSIS International Security Program. Previously, she was a senior research fellow at the Centre for Defense Studies and King's College London, and spent several years working for the United Nations and the European Union in Somalia and Kosovo. She was a member of Project Unicorn, a counterterrorism police advisory panel in London, and has written several publications on terrorism.

Von Hippel received her doctorate in international relations from the London School of Economics, her Master of Studies from Oxford University and her Bachelor of Arts from Yale University.
