On Nov. 9, about 200 Juneauites met to celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters at Centennial Hall. There were Big Bothers, Big Sisters, Little Brothers and Little Sisters. The following table hosts invited their friends and co-workers: Donald Hoye, Gary Droubay, Nicole Hallingstad, Scott Fischer, Sherry Patterson, Liz Perry, Holly Johnson, Katherine Harris, Katy Jordan, Caitlyn McLaughlin, Steve Sue Wing, Claudette Curtis, Denny Dewitt and Reggie Bass.
Big Brother Brad Robbins and Little Brother Marcus told the story of their match and of all the fun they have together. Steve Gonzales Advertising produced a touching video of testimonials by Bigs, Littles and parents. Statewide Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska CEO, Taber Rehbaum, told the audience of the agency's vision. A panel of Bigs and Littles answered questions facilitated by master of ceremonies Judy Shook. Bigs on the panel were: David and Shelly Shaeffer, Jen Whitcomb, Bill Wildes, Marcy Peska and Claire Richardson and their Littles: Daniel, Freedom, Alisia and Angus. Larry Persily, a long time Dream Big Society member, gave a donor's perspective talk at the end of the lunch.
Eleven attendees volunteered to mentor Juneau children at the event. There were three invitations to address organizations in Juneau and over $30,000 raised in donations.
The people of Juneau continue to support Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs, knowing how important it is to children's success and the future of our community.
