Thank you to Chatham Electric for their boom truck to replace strings of lights the tree at 1106 Third Street. Thanks to Alaska Department of Transportation and the Juneau Police Department for closing part of the street for the event. Thank you to the Douglas firefighters for tent assembly, placement, directing traffic and handling the barricades. Thank you to the Douglas Community United Methodist Church for the tree, hospitably and refreshments. Thank you to Keith Giles and the Rozwick Giles Music staff for the sound system. Thank you to all 4th of July Committee members, Treadwell Ice Arena staff and the City and Borough of Juneau Parks & Recreation who help create a happy start of this holiday season.
Tuba Christmas, directed by Ken Guiher, started the event with a special concert of carols in the church. Douglas Methodist men and their helpers served refreshments by the Christmas tree. The City of Juneau Pipe Band called people to come around the tree with pipes and drums playing songs. Reverend Sue Bahleda of Resurrection Lutheran Church gave the invocation. Pat Peterson, President of Douglas 4th of July Committee welcomed all. Deputy Mayor Merrill Sanford turned on the tree to cheers. Gastineau Daisy Troop 4021, Brownie Troop 4030 and Daisy Brownie Troop joined with Pack 10 Club Scouts to serenade the crowd with three carols. Then together, Douglas sang carols then cheered "Merry Christmas" to all. The City of Juneau Pipe Band played more Christmas music while families and friends visited and had more refreshments.
The Treadwell Ice Arena staff decorated the arena and hosted a large happy crowd at the Santa Skate. Thank you goes to Santa Steve Baseden and his elves, Laurie Balstad and Demaris Oxman.
