Photo: Seeking out his savior

Posted: Wednesday, December 06, 2006

Jay Blair, left, a Douglas snowboarder who got lost last weekend at Eaglecrest and spent a freezing night in the snow, sought out 12-year-old Parker Schnabel of Haines this week to say thanks for spotting him from the air. Blair had trudged to the backside of Douglas Island and was too exhausted to wave for help. Parker, who was flying with his grandfather, spotted Blair on the ground, tapped the pilot on the shoulder and told him he thought someone on the beach was in trouble. The pilot radioed for help. The youngster was at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School for a basketball tournament.
