Rachel C. Madden
Southeast resident Rachel C. Madden died Dec. 4, 2000, at St. Ann's Care Center in Juneau.
She was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Hoonah. She was raised in Hoonah, and was a Raven and a member of the T'ak Dein Taan Clan. Her Tlingit name was Ska Nax Ka Du Na.
She was married to Eugene "Blackie" Madden, who preceded her in death. They lived in Wrangell and operated a gas station and moved to Hoonah on retirement.
She was a member of the Hoonah Alaska Native Sisterhood, Camp 12.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Lady Moses and Peter Mark Williams, her sisters Sarah Jewell and Marie Hall, her niece Cindy Hall and cousin Lincoln Wallace.
She is survived by her cousins Amos Wallace and John Martin Sr., nieces Lorraine Patterson, Christine Soriano, and Ernestine Grimm, all of Juneau, Anna Faye Jewell and nephews Walter Jewell II of Hoonah and William Hall of Seattle, and a number of great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
The memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Juneau Orthodox Church. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Juneau Orthodox Church, and a luncheon will follow at the Juneau Tlingit and Haida Community Center on Hospital Drive.
Pallbearers will be Andre Soriano, Walter Jewell III, Peter Jewell, Frank Coronell, Timothy Lindoff, Benjamin Wallen, Robert Zura and Duane Jack.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Johnnie, Charles Jack, Thomas Jack, Ernest Jack, James Jack, Fred Jack, John Howard and Wilbur James Sr.
