I noticed in the FYI column on Dec. 1 that five people were convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. Four people duly received stiff sentences including jail time, driver's license restrictions, large fines and probation. However, one person received a token sentence of a comparatively small fine and nothing else. Now why would that be? Surely all drinking drivers pose a threat to the safety of the community.
