Friday-Saturday, Dec. 1-2

• Juneau-Douglas High School hockey - The Juneau-Douglas High School hockey team (5-3) will host two games with Tri-Valley on Friday and Saturday at Treadwell Arena. Friday's game starts at 8 p.m. while Saturday's faceoff is set for 7 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 10

• The Juneau 4-H Cross Country Ski Sign Up and Gear Check Out - All levels of skiiers in grades K-12 can sign up and check out gear for the Juneau 4-H Cross Country Ski Club on Sunday at Nugget Mall. Returning ski club members can check out from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. while new members are welcome from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. If you have skis, come and sign up. If you do not have skis, the 4-H Nordic Ski Club will have skis, poles and boots available for rent on a first-come, first-served bases. Fee is $6 to join the club, $50 for ski rental with $20 refunded if you attend 7 of 10 sessions. The club starts meeting on Jan. 7 every Sunday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Info: 4-H offices, 465-8749.

Tuesday-Sunday, Dec. 26-31

• Juneau Ski Club Alpine Race Coca-Cola Classic - Eaglecrest Ski Area will host the Juneau Ski Club Alpine Race Coca-Cola Classic. There will be two slalom and two giant slalom races.

Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 30-31

• Juneau Ski Club Alpine Race Series - Eaglecrest Ski Area will host the Millenium Gian Slalom race on Saturday and Sunday.

Dec. 16-31

• Holiday Cup 2006 - The Holiday Cup Competitive Indoor Soccer Tournament will be held Dec. 16-31. There are five coed divisions - grades 4-5, middle school, high school ages 16 and under, ages 17-20 and masters division for ages 21 and over. Coaches and managers interested in sponsoring a team must submit a roster by Dec. 6. Team entries only. • JDHS Swimming and Diving teams Christmas tree sale - The Crimson Bears annual Christmas tree sale has started in the Fred Meyer parking lot. This is a fundraiser to support the student-athletes on the swimming and diving teams. Noble firs, grand firs and Douglas firs are available. Trees are available Monday-Friday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Info: John, 789-1759.

• Eaglecrest Ski Area events - Eaglecrest Ski Area will host a number of events in December for skiers and snowboarders.

Dec. 8-20, Eaglecrest will host the Winter Solstice Salvation Army Toy Drive. Please drop an unwrapped toy in the bin in the rental shop, receive a free hot drink and enter to win a stocking stuffer on Dec. 21.

Dec. 16-17, Eagle crest will host refresher adult lessons for skiers and snowboarders

Dec. 19-22, Eaglecrest will host the first Holiday Ski/Snowboard Camp for all ages and abilities.

Dec. 24 is the annual Christmas Eve celebration. There will be ornament making at 3:30 p.m. Apres ski cookies at 4 p.m., holiday music with Rick Trostel's youth and Ann Boochever at 4:30 p.m., an adult torchlight parade down Hooter Slopes at 5:15 p.m., a kids torchlight on Platter at 5:45 p.m. and then Santa Claus arrives on a sleigh to give everyone toys at 6 p.m. You can register each child for a gift with Santa's Eaglecrest Elves at 790-2000 x211.

Dec. 26-29, Eaglecrest will host the second Holiday Ski/Snowboard Camp for all ages and abilities.

Dec. 31 is the pre-resolution solution opportunity to try snowboarding to get ready for 2007. Call 790-2000 x211.

On Jan. 1, the annual New Years Day fireworks will take place with live music. Festivities start at 3 p.m. followed by fireworks at 5 p.m.

• HoopTime registration - The HoopTime basketball program is now taking registration for players in grades 5 through 8. The 2007 HoopTime season starts Jan 2. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served bases. Registration deadline is Dec. 8, late registration ends Dec. 15. • Hilary Lindh Eaglecrest Season Pass Scholarship - Students in grades K-12 can win a free season pass to Eaglecrest Ski Area this winter. Applications for the Hilary Lindh Eaglecrest Season Pass Scholarship are available at local school offices, Nugget Alaskan Outfitters, Play It Again Sports, Foggy Mountain Shop and Eaglecrest Snowsports Schools and online at One boys and one girl will win the season pass. The Eaglecrest Board of Directors chooses its winners from applicants who have maintained a 'C' average for the previous school year and currently attend school in the Juneau School District or equivalent. The program was established in 1992 in recognition of Lindh's silver medal performance in the 1992 Winter Olympics and the hard work she dedicated to downhill ski racing. The deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 5. Submit applications to Eaglecrest Snowsports School, Nugget Alaskan Outfitters, Foggy Mountain Shop or Play It Again Sports.
