WASILLA - With the weekend opening of Fire Station 63 in Wasilla, the Central Mat-Su Fire Department now has nine stations.
KTUU reports a second station is scheduled to open next weekend in Wasilla, and Chief James Steele hopes to find funds to build two more stations next year.
The state Division of Fire and Life Safety reports there have been nine fire fatalities this year across Alaska. Four of them have been in the Mat-Su Valley, one of the state's fastest-growing areas.
