JUNEAU - The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch on Sunday for this evening through Tuesday afternoon, saying up to a foot of snow could fall on the city.
"A strong low will bring ample moisture in from the gulf of Alaska while an arctic front will bring in cold air from the Yukon," the weather service said. "The combination of these elements will allow for possible 6 to 12 inches of snowfall from Icy Straight northward ..."
The service reminded motorists to travel with caution and residents to be prepared in the event of a power loss.
A storm "watch" means condition are favorable for the development of winter storm conditions in the area.
