Marjorie Ann (Mallum) Bukovich died Dec. 1, 2010. She was born in Aberdeen, Wash., Feb. 13, 1927, to Dorothy (Colburn) and George Mallum. During her high school years she met the love of her life and future husband, Rudy Bukovich, while picking daffodil bulbs in the Puyallup Valley. After they graduated high school in 1945, they married after Rudy returned from service in the Pacific. They were married March 20, 1948, and settled in Washington state. The Bukovich family moved to Ketchikan in the 1960s and purchased the Gateway Club and started RB Construction, a gravel and excavation business. Rudy passed away in 1994.
She always had a positive attitude about life and people loved to visit with her. Margie and Rudy had many friends and enjoyed visiting with people, young and old. They enjoyed traveling to different parts of the world including Europe, Australia, Brazil and Mexico. They spent many weekends on their boat, the "Margie B" and loved to explore the areas around Ketchikan, especially George Inlet and Carol Inlet. Always curious about life, She was an optimist and believed in the goodness of people. She was young at heart and will always be remembered for her kind spirit and loving personality.
In 2006, she moved to the Ketchikan Pioneer Home, and in 2007, the Juneau Pioneer Home to be closer to her daughters. The staff of the Pioneer Home loved her and her sweet disposition and tenderly cared for her in her final years.
She is survived by her children, Janet Underwood, JoAnn (Remond) and Rena (Emil) Bukovich-Notti; grandchildren Dr. L. Don Underwood, Audra Henderson, Sterling Henderson, David Notti and Michael Notti; sisters Lorena Cole and Mary Ellen (Dave) Reckner; brothers, William Mitchell and Albert (Andi) Mitchell Jr.; sister-in-law Mary Blomquist; brother in law Winton Blomquist; cousin Wayne Holm and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Alaskan Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive in Juneau. Her nephew, the Rev. John C. Mitchell, son of William Mitchell, will be officiating. A reception will follow at the Henderson family home at 17855 Lena Loop Road.
