James N. Sanford Jr.
Metlakatla resident James N. Sanford Jr., 22, died Dec. 3, 2000, in Metlakatla.
He was born Feb. 7, 1978, in Ketchikan. He was a diver and fisherman. His hobbies included basketball, and he was a member of the Metlakatla Merchants team. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. His family wrote that he was a wonderful father and loved basketball.
Sanford is survived by his son, James Sanford, and daughter, Megan Gunyah; his parents, Cliff and Amy Claggett, all of Metlakatla, and Jim Sanford of Wrangell; grandparents, Joan Collier of Metlakatla, and Lorraine Dunne of West Virginia; brothers John Sanford of Seattle and Steven Claggett of Metlakatla; sister, Jamie Sanford of Metlakatla; mother of his children, Jody Leisholmn; and friend, Mary Scudero.
A memorial service was held Thursday and the funeral was Friday at the Metlakatla Presbyterian Church. Sanford was interred at Oceanview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dustin Booth, Christopher Booth, Tom Booth Jr., Willie Hayward, John Leisholmn, Richie Hayward, Merle Guthrie Jr., Danny Marsden Jr. and Kelly Holloway.
