Pfc. Walter Hill named Soldier of the Year
Pfc. Walter V.C. Hill of Juneau has been named Soldier of the Year for Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion (Scout), 297th Infantry, Alaska Army National Guard.
"Hill is one of our high-speed soldiers. He graduated with honors from Chemical Operations School, which is one of the more difficult and challenging military schools," said Sgt. Morris Carrillo, readiness NCO for Headquarters Company.
Hill joined the Guard in June 2002, and completed training as a Chemical Operations Specialists in March 2003.
Pfc. Hill is a 1998 graduate of Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka.
He is now a full-time student at the University of Alaska Southeast. He is the student representative on the executive committee of Tlingit-Haida Central Council. His Tlingit name is Laakaakoo, and he is a member of the Raven moiety, T'akdeintaan Clan.
