JDHS runners compete in regional

Three sophomore members of the state champion Juneau-Douglas High School boys cross-country running team competed Saturday in different races at the 25th Annual Foot Locker West Regional Cross Country Championships in Walnut, Calif.

Tyler Dinnan finished 15th in Race No. 19, posting a time of 18 minutes, 21 seconds for the 5-kilometer course. Wesley Dinnan, Tyler's twin, took 35th place in Race No. 18 with a time of 18:51. Justin Jones was 66th in Race No. 20, posting a time of 20:50.

Zoe Nelson of Kalispell, Mont., won the girls seeded race in 18:07, with Seward's Whitney Anderson the top Alaska runner in 25th place at 19:05. Shadrack Kiptu of Albuquerque, N.M., won the boys seeded race in 15:32, with Chugiak's Jesse Cherry the top Alaskan in 44th place at 16:39.

The top finishers from the four regionals advance to nationals.
