Murkowski's DADT vote disappointing

Posted: Friday, December 10, 2010

I am very disappointed Sen. Lisa Murkowski has voted against important defense legislation and denied equal treatment to our military personnel. Today she voted against legislation that would appropriate money to the Departments of Defense and Energy as well as repeal a policy that discriminates against select military personnel.

Murkowski said in a statement she wouldn't vote for passage of the bill unless "the majority allows for an open and fair amendment process." What isn't fair is she is more interested in partisan politics than ethical treatment of people who are in the our military and putting their lives at risk for our freedoms.

Murkowski has the opportunity to prove that she represents all Alaskans, but her voting record shows she will continue to support the Republicans in Congress before the Alaskans at home.
