JUNEAU - The Coast Guard says plans are under way to repair a faulty weather buoy in Southeast Alaska.
Officials say the Coast Guard cutter Maple and the National Buoy Data Center are involved in the effort to repair the Edgecumbe National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration buoy.
Officials say the buoy stopped transmitting data last month for unknown reasons, although it continues to function.
The buoy provides data such as air and sea temperatures, wind speed and wave height that assists the National Weather Service.
Coast Guard officials say the buoy will be serviced as logistics and weather permit.
