FAIRBANKS - A dispute over property taxes that has dragged on for two years may be settled soon between a Fort Wainwright housing contractor and the city of Fairbanks.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the City Council will be asked to vote Monday on an agreement with North Haven Communities, a half-private, half-military-owned housing corporation.
Under the agreement, North Haven would pay the city $475,000 annually - about two thirds of the property taxes based on the assessed taxable value of the company's housing on Fort Wainwright.
Mayor Jerry Cleworth calls it a good deal - and it would avoid potential litigation.
