Mayes picked to head senior, disabilities agency

ANCHORAGE - Gov. Sean Parnell has picked a new director for the Division of Senior & Disabilities Services.

Duane Mayes will begin the job Dec. 20.

The agency serves senior citizens, adults with disabilities, vulnerable adults and others.

Health & Social Services Acting Commissioner William Streur says Mayes brings a deep awareness of the challenges that division clients face.

Mayes has more than 30 years of experience supporting and advocating for Alaskans with disabilities. He most recently worked as a health and social services planner for the Governor's Council on Disabilities & Special Education.
