I'd like to thank Sealaska for the generous $200 check they sent out. I was able to buy groceries, about a week's worth, knowing that them and their families look the other way when our people need help.

Juneau seniors enjoyed a festive time Sunday at the annual holiday dinner sponsored by the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association. It is a privilege to have them as citizens of this community. Many thanks.

I'm sure if any real sensitive person went to the Capitol or the assembly and looked real close they would be able to see a halo growing over the heads of our politicians.

The free concert given by the U.S. Air Force Band at Centennial Hall was awesome. Too bad more people didn't attend.

I appreciate what the lighthouse restoration people are doing but I don't understand why they want 1,500 acres along with the lighthouse.

I would like to thank the two individuals who gave me a jump start each of these last two Saturdays at the Don Abel and Fred Meyer parking lots. This is a great town and they helped make it so.

In consideration of John Winters' advocacy of this column during his tenure as publisher of the Empire, it seems appropriate to use a bit of WOM space to share the news that Seth Samuel Winters was born to Corby and John Winters at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8 in Grand Island, Neb. Seth weighed 6 pounds and was 19 inches long. He arrived three weeks early to be sure he would not be left out when Christmas presents are opened. The welcoming committee included big brother Caleb. All family members are reported to be doing fine. - Editor
