Boating safety course offered

The Alaska Office of Boating Safety presents a boating course, "Alaska Water Wise," from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 14, at the Department of Environmental Conservation building.

The class is free. Pre-registration is encouraged.

Topics covered include predeparture preparation, boating operations, boating emergencies, cold-water survival, navigation rules of the road and legal requirements.

Parks advisory board members needed

Applications to fill vacancies on the Juneau Area State Parks Advisory Board are being accepted by the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation.

The board works with the Juneau office of the Department of Natural Resources and Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. Board positions require eight hours of work a month, attendance of monthly board meeting and service on one standing committee.

Deadline for applicants is Dec. 28. Applications are available at the state parks office, 400 Willoughby Ave., or by phone, 465-2482.
