KODIAK - A Coast Guard helicopter crew has plucked a 61-year-old man from a ship 150 miles southeast of Kodiak Island and flown him to Kodiak for emergency medical care.

Petty Officer 1st Class Sara Francis said Raul Sempio was suffering from symptoms of a stroke. He was reported in stable condition Wednesday at Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center.

The Coast Guard said the man was a master aboard the 590-foot Panamanian-flagged car carrier Luna Spirit. The ship's crew called for help Tuesday evening.
