ANCHORAGE - An Alaska man on his way home from church rescued a dog from a burning house after checking to see if anybody was inside.
Dean Paulson told the Anchorage Daily News that he and his wife were on their way home Wednesday evening when they spotted the flames coming from the eaves of the house and thick, black smoke spewing out.
The 44-year-old Paulson said he threw a planter through the front window as he called to check for anyone trapped inside, then kicked in a garage door and went in.
When he kicked open another door leading to the home, he heard the jingle of a dog collar in the smoky interior. He called out and a golden retriever named Raja followed him to safety.
No injuries were reported, including Raja.
