Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Saturday hike - Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the snowmachine parking lot on Jackson Street, off Cordova Street, at the top of Blueberry Hill in West Juneau. This moderate hike is along the Treadwell Ditch Trail, with group members deciding which direction and how far they want to go. Juneau-Douglas High School swim/dive team Christmas tree sale - This year's annual sale runs through Sunday, Dec. 22, or until all the Christmas trees are gone. This fund-raiser helps benefit the JDHS swimming and diving teams. Noble fir and grand fir trees are available. The trees are for sale at the Fred Meyer store parking lot. Hours are 5-8 p.m. on Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. on Sunday. Info: JDHS swim/dive coach John Wray, 789-1759.
4-H Nordic Ski Club - The fifth year of this club for youth and adult skiers will meet every Sunday afternoon from Jan. 12 through March 16 at various locations TBA. The first meeting takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Riverbend Elementary School Commons Area, with club leaders Odin Brudie and Frankie Pillifant. The first meeting will give people a chance to enroll in the club ($6 membership fee) and to register to rent skis. The club has a limited number of pairs of classic and skating ski sets for rent for $20 for the entire winter season. Club leaders will help parents size skis for their children. The club only rents youth skis, adults must provide their own. If families can't attend the Dec. 14 meeting, they should call the 4-H office and enroll by phone. JRC/The Alaska Club Winter Break Sports Camp - This camp is open to all children in grades 1-8 and runs from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23-24 and Dec. 30-31. The registration deadline is Thursday, Dec. 19. Activities include racquetball, tennis, basketball, badminton, soccer, other games and holiday arts and crafts. The cost is $25 for one day or $85 for all four days for JRC/TAC members, or $30 for one day and $105 for all four days for non-JRC/TAC members. Juneau Soccer Club registration - The Juneau Soccer Club is registering players in grades 4-5 for the 2002-03 season. Membership includes weekly skills development and training sessions, special weekly skills clinics and goalkeeping clinics. Players are trained by licensed coaches in gender-specific settings. Juneau Adult Hockey Association registration - Due to a higher-than-expected response to the initial JAHA registration period, the league is extending its registration period and creating a two-tiered league. The two-tiered league will have one division for beginners with some hockey experience, while the other division will be for more-experienced players. Both divisions will be non-contact coed leagues. Players must be at least 18 years old, have some hockey experience and be fully equipped to start playing in late January. Individuals younger than age 18 may be considered for the league based on experience. So far, nearly 120 players have registered, more than twice the number anticipated for the inaugural season of recreational hockey at the new Treadwell Arena. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation coed volleyball registration - Team manager packets are available at the Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation office downtown, Room 218 of the Municipal Building, 155 S.
